Using Internal Item and Order Notes

Blog Post created by gennyr Employee on Feb 20, 2018

In versions 5.7 and 5.8, we added the ability to add notes for internal use to the My Inventory and Orders tab. These notes will not appear in the listings or on the packing slips - they're strictly for your internal use. If you’re unsure of how you might use them in your day to day, here are some ideas:

Internal Inventory Notes:

  • Storing unstructured data (where you wouldn’t necessarily want to create a user data field)
  • Identifying who received it (single quantity SKUs) or perhaps who received it w/ date (for SKUs with multiple quantity received at different times)
  • Documenting special cost or vendor notes
  • Providing instructions such as Do Not Send to FBA (perhaps due to hazardous materials, etc.)

Internal Order Notes:

  • Detailing an experience with the customer that you may need to refer back to down the road
  • Citing a problem with the fulfillment of the order
  • Documenting an observation at the time of picking/packing/shipping the items in the order
  • Supplying replacement details (e.g. replaced with item from a different location)

If you have a clever use for them that you’ve put into play, please share in the comments!
