Amazon now offers their Ship by Region service, and Monsoon Marketplace lets you take advantage of some great new shipping pricing and shipment timing options.

What is Amazon Ship by Region?

The Ship by Region feature allows you to set region-specific shipping rates and times for your items. You can opt to charge more for shipping to regions that cost you more, or provide more accurate ship times for items that need to travel farther to reach your customers.

Media (BMVD) sellers can also make full use of the Ship by Region options, including setting shipping fees and ship times.

If you use FBA, Amazon will still set your shipping rates, but you will still see a new default template created.

You’ll create shipping templates which allow you to customize your shipping options by region, and assign them to categories and SKUs.

For more information about Amazon Ship by Region, see our Amazon Ship by Region webhelp page.

What do you need to do?

There are three steps you’ll need to take in order to use Amazon Ship by Region.

  1. Migrate your account to a new Selling on Amazon account if you do not already have one.
  2. Activate Ship by Region from your Amazon account.
  3. Create shipping templates on Amazon, then create them in Monsoon Marketplace.

Migrate your account

You can migrate your Amazon account to the new Seller Central account at any time. Amazon may automatically migrate your account, but we recommend doing it yourself so you know when it will happen.

Go to your Amazon Seller Central account and log in. You may already have a Selling on Amazon account, so if you can opt in to the new shipping settings, you can skip to Activate Ship by Region below.

Note: You may have a notice on the main Amazon account page that your account will be automatically migrated by a certain date. If so, click Learn More to find out more about the Ship by Region feature and enable it.

If you prefer video instructions, you can watch this how-to video about enabling Ship by Region, which includes some basic shipping template information as well.

You may also be able to access the Ship by Region activation using Amazon’s new Shipping Settings page. This page gives a more in-depth look at how Ship by Region works, and the benefits of the service.

This process may take some time, as Amazon must enable your account, and Monsoon Marketplace needs to check for and enable it in the software. Be aware that a few hours may pass before you have access to the new features.

Set up your shipping templates

Shipping templates are rule templates that allow you to select regions, then set shipping rates and times for those regions. You can have several templates or just a few, and you can change them at any time.

Once you’ve opted in to Ship by Region, Amazon will automatically create a default shipping template based on your current shipping information. It’s a good idea to look at this template to verify that it’s correct. If you sell media (BMVD), you will want to verify that the shipping rates are what you expect them to be.

If the template is fine, you don’t need to make any changes to it, and Monsoon Marketplace will use the default until you create new templates.

If you create a shipping template on Amazon, you must make a copy of it in Monsoon Marketplace. See Amazon Ship by Region for details.

How can I use shipping templates?

Some ways you can use shipping templates to improve your business is to make use of region-specific shipping times to provide more accurate estimates for when your customers will receive items based on their location. Or to automatically add extra shipping amounts on certain items or locations.

For example, if you’re on one side of the country and are shipping something to the other side, you could set up a template that will set a 3-day shipping time rather than a 2-day time. You could also set shipping templates that will price your shipping rates higher for heavier items. This gives your customers realistic delivery estimates and pricing for shipping, which can help improve your seller feedback.
